Occlusal equilibration means evening out the bite, making it uniform on both sides. Signs of “occlusal disease” such as:
progressively wearing teeth/chipped or fractured teeth.
drifting teeth or a shifting bite.
mobile teeth.
Sensitive teeth.
Pain in the muscles that help in chewing
Pain and/or clicking in the jaw joints
Grinding or clenching of teeth
Headaches on waking in the morning
Patients who exhibit such signs benefit from a “bite analysis”. This allows us to find out the “Why” of a particular problem i.e. the cause. Sometimes it can be as minor as interference in the back teeth. Such patients benefit from “Occlusal equilibration” i.e. making the bite even so that there are no interferences. This simple solution maybe all that is required to provide complete relief.
